London – Ciné Lumière

November 20, 2025 @ 20:15

This adaptation of Fatima Daas’ novel, set in a Paris suburb, is a coming-of-age story about a lesbian Muslim woman who is dealing with pushback from both her family and the outside world – and herself.

The title role is played by debut newcomer Nadia Melliti, winner of Best Actress Award in Cannes 2025.

Fatima’s awakening sexual identity is the main focus: as her school career is coming to an end, she hits the apps; she meets women at first almost like a journalist on assignment, quizzing one amused older women on the exact details of lesbian sex.

This is Herzi’s third feature as director following 2021 Cannes Un Certain Regard title Good
Mother and 2019 Critics’ Week debut You Deserve a Lover.

Advisory content: strong language, sex
