Edinburgh – Institut Français d’Ecosse

November 13, 2023 @ 18:30

Alice Diop presents a series of vignettes of life in the Parisian suburbs and the surrounding countryside.

After the success of Saint Omer in last year’s Festival, this is a chance to catch Diop’s earlier documentary which journeys into the diversity of the suburbs, following in the tracks of the RER B train route. As it gains momentum, this deceptively cunning documentary sees those parallel tracks converge and criss-cross unexpectedly, throwing off fascinating intellectual sparks of insight at the switching points. Diop challenges the traditional ideas of how a documentary should be organised.

"French-Senegalese film-maker Alice Diop offers a sensitive portrayal of disparate communities... " - The Guardian
