FROM 2 AUGUST 2020

Introducing our Short Film Programme for 2020

This week we’re delighted to bring you an update on our Festival short film programme, Short Cuts.

Martine Pierquin, one of the Festival’s Short Cuts curators alongside François Giraud (University of Edinburgh) and French Film Festival UK’s Sylvia Davidson, introduces three of the highlights from this year’s exciting official selection. A student jury were involved in the deliberations before a consensus was reached.

Keep an eye out on our website for more news of screenings, online debates and workshops as the Festival approaches.

If you’re a fan of short films, you might also want to take a look at these Cannes Adami Talents titles, all shot by award-winning actors. My Kingdom director Guillhaume Gouix was a guest at the 2013 Festival where he presented Mobile Home. He also appeared in Paper Flags, which screened at last year’s Festival.

My Kingdom

Mon royaume

Dir Guillaume Gouix

None of this will matter to the people who come here after us. They’ll turn it into a walk-in wardrobe or an ensuite bedroom for the parents. Our memories are worth more than that. They don’t belong in boxes, they are everywhere. Fuck nostalgia.

Selected for:
Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2020).
Tangier Mediterranean Short Film Festival (2019).

Dir Guillaume Gouix | 2019 | France, Belgium | 17 mins | French with English Subtitles.

Miss Out

On va manquer!

Dir Sabrina Ouazani

Faïza’s mother-in-law is arriving from Algeria for the annual family dinner, celebrating Eid al-Adha (which in fact takes place this weekend). She is organising everything with help from her own children. She desperately wants everything to go perfectly. Spoiler alert: they won’t.

Selected for:
Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2019).
Tangier Mediterranean Short Film Festival (2018).

Dir Sabrina Ouazani | 2018 | France, Belgium | 18 mins | French with English subtitles.

Peru

le Pérou

DirMarie Kramer

Summoned to a mysterious meeting on a beach near Ostend, complete strangers Poppy, Vincent, Gaspard, and Adèle see only a dilapidated bar. They quickly discover they all had the same father, but none had met him. He has left the bar to them in his will.

Selected for:
Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2018).
Brussels Short Film Festival (2018).

Dir Marie Kramer | 2017 | France, Belgium | 16 mins | French with English subtitles.
