Screening of This is our Land at Glasgow Film Theatre
19 November

Belgian-born director Lucas Belvaux revealed that it was while shooting his previous film Not My Type with Emilie Dequenne that he had the idea for Chez Nous / This Is Our Land, shown at GFT. “It was the height of the electoral season and all the polls put the Front National on 30 or 40 per cent. As I filmed this rather pleasant, intelligent, strong-willed and optimistic character, I found myself wondering who she’d vote for. So I decided to make a film with a similar character … What I was interested in about the FN was their strategy, their marketing methods – and how they used them to seduce the public. I wanted to put together as accurate a snapshot as possible, and to explore the topic of the voters and their motivations.”
