Joan of Arc / Jeanne (N/C 15+)

Bruno Dumont’s second film about the historical heroine premiered in the Un Certain Regard sidebar in Cannes earlier this year. Adapted once again from the early 20th century theatrical works of French writer and poet Charles Peguy, this second instalment follows the legend through her different battles against the English in 1429 on to her capture, trial and eventual execution only two years later. This is an incredible but true saga. The entire film is peppered with lip-synched musical numbers composed by French rocker Christophe. Dumont was given a special mention by the Un certain regard jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Cast Lise Leplat Prudhomme, Annick Lavieville, Justine Herbez
